Our experienced and compassionate team at Alondra Animal Hospital are able to provide efficient emergency vet care in most situations. Our entire team is passionate about pet care and is here to provide high-quality care when it is most needed.

What To Do In A Pet Emergency

If you are experiencing a veterinary emergency, follow the steps below.

  • Call Ahead If Possible - Contact us immediately if it is during regular business hours. If it is after-hours please contact the emergency clinics listed above to inform them of your arrival.
  • Follow Instructions - The team at either our hospital or the emergency clinic will provide you with instructions for any necessary first aid or advice to make your pet as comfortable as possible. Please follow these instructions carefully.
  • Remain Calm - It is important to remain calm and interact gently with your pet. Your pet may be in pain and it is possible that they may react negatively and scratch or bite while you are helping them.
  • Bring Your Pet In For Care - If it is safe to do so please transport your pet to our Gardena animal hospital or the emergency vet locations above.

  • Should I call ahead?

    Alondra Animal Hospital is able to provide your pet with emergency and urgent veterinary care during our regular hospital hours. While we recommend calling prior to arriving, we understand that the situation may not allow it.

    If we are unable to fit your pet into our schedule, we recommend that you visit the after-hours emergency animal hospital locations shown above. 

  • What are your hours?

    Our veterinarian team is able to provide emergency and urgent care during our regular business hours:

  • What is considered an emergency situation?

    Here are some of the situations that would require emergency care:

    • Severe bleeding or bleeding that doesn't stop
    • Obvious signs of pain or extreme anxiety
    • Choking, difficulty breathing, or continuous coughing/gagging
    • Fractured bones or severe lameness
    • Seizures and/or staggering
    • Bleeding from nose, mouth, rectum, or blood in the urine
    • Inability to urinate or pass feces, or pain associated with urinating or passing feces
    • Severe vomiting or diarrhea; 2+ episodes in 24-hours
    • Injuries to the eye(s)
    • Your pet has ingested something poisonous (such as antifreeze, xylitol, chocolate, rodent poison, etc.)
    • Heat stress or heatstroke
    • Refusal to drink for 24 hours or more
    • Unconsciousness
  • What are the emergency wait times?

    Our Gardena animal hospital sees many pets throughout each day for various reasons therefore it can be unpredictable and you may have to wait. 

    As we are unable to predict what each day may look like ahead of time it is recommended to call ahead to find out whether we are able to provide emergency care for your pet.

    If we are unable to fit an emergency appointment into our vet's schedule, we recommend that you visit one of the 24/7 animal emergency clinics listed above. 

  • What happens if my pet needs to stay in the hospital?

    There may be some emergency situations where your pet will be required to stay overnight. At Alondra Animal Hospital we are able to provide overnight care for your pet where they will be closely monitored.

    Our caring team will ensure that your pet receives the best care possible. 

  • What types of animals do you treat?

    At Alondra Animal Hospital we mainly treat cats and dogs but are also able to provide care to small animals such as ferrets.
